The evening

La Notte del Cortometraggio returns with its first event in Ticino at PalaCinema Locarno. The evening begins at 8.15 pm with Première & Swiss Shorts, which features the premiere of a number of short films recently produced in Italian-speaking Switzerland, attended by guests (directors, producers and production teams), and continues with three themed programmes until late into the night: Dalla Passione all'Ossessione, Storie d'Amore & Altri Problemi (in collaboration with Fantoche, the Baden International Animation Film Festival) and Lustrini e Paillette.

Première & Swiss Shorts Switzerland shows its wild side: on the mountain peaks, there are symbols that spur people on to do extreme things. Other unresolved conflicts are settled at the bus stop, and a young filmmaker regains her composure after an inappropriate encounter. From watching too much television, your eyes become square, and it’s very difficult to part with your grandmother’s beloved car, even when you’re in good company. Our country’s latest short films are not content merely to show a picture-postcard Switzerland.

Dalla Passione all'Ossessione How does a passion begin, and when does it become an obsession? Some passions become the sole expression of one’s identity. What at first glance seems harmless may reveal very dark aspects. Obsession can take root deep within the soul, clinging on like a tapeworm and becoming one’s sole companion on the journey. A ritual to rid oneself of it might be the only way out.

Storie d'Amore & Altri Problemi Love is complicated. Strange. Or both. This programme presents animated stories of desire, intimacy and relationships: sometimes funny, tender, often absurd and occasionally very explicit. Bizarre short films about the most beautiful of all forms of suffering… love. A madcap, humour-filled journey through an emotional landscape full of surprises.
